Frequently Asked Questions

How long have you been in business?
We opened our doors in 1994 at our Ponemah Road (Route 122) Amherst New Hampshire location. And we have been caring for pets for over 40 years. Our clients live in the surrounding towns of Amherst, Mount Vernon, Hollis, Merrimack, Milford, Nashua, and Bedford.

Are you a veterinarian?
No. We focus our business on boarding and day care for cats and dogs. We do have a veterinarian on call and our facilities are monitored 24 hours a day.

Why should I bring my pet to you?
McOsker Kennels offers a full range of professional services for your pet. We strive to provide the best care for your pet possible. Let us care for your pet the way only a family business can!

What services do you offer?
Our primary services include boarding and day care for cats and dogs. In addition, we offer professional grooming and private pet training services. Also, we are a breeder of AKC Labrador Retrievers.

How do I make a reservation for boarding?
You can contact us at 603-672-0032 to make reservations for your pet’s stay. A non-refundable $50 deposit is required to guarantee a reservation for your pet. (Updated immunization records required.)

Your pet is charged a full day when he/she arrives regardless of time. Check-out time is 12:00 pm. Pets picked up after this time will result in a full day charge. We request a 48-hour notification of cancellation or early pickup. Failure to notify us will result in your being billed for the entire scheduled stay.

If you are boarding your pet, we suggest you schedule a grooming appointment for the day of pick up. If your pet is groomed the day of pick-up, you will not be charged for boarding that day!

Do you board cats?
Yes. Our climate controlled cat loft is located above the office to provide a stress free atmosphere for your cat.

Do you board aggressive pets?
Some pets do not board well. If your pet has an aggression problem, you should seek alternate services, such as a pet/house sitter, a veterinarian, or a friend or family member. We do not board or groom aggressive pets. We are happy to provide you with alternative resources.

Do you board any other types of pets?
No. We board dogs and cats only. You should seek alternate services, such as a pet/house sitter, a veterinarian, or a friend or family member for your other pets.

What should I bring when I board my pet?
We have a list of “Helpful Hints for Boarding Your Pets” which includes a list of supplies. We suggest your bring your own beds, extra bedding and toys to make your pet more comfortable. While we feed Blueseal Lamb and Rice during their stay, we find that changes in food may cause stomach irritation and diarrhea. You are welcome to bring a supply of food for your pet’s stay. We have a refrigerator and microwave. Please do not bring rope bones or real bones as they as they may pose a threat to your pet’s health.

Do you administer medications?
We will administer medication to your pet at no additional charge. This service is a courtesy, and is not a part of our boarding service. All medications should be clearly marked with instructions for administration. Pets needing medications to sustain life should be boarded at an animal hospital.

What should I look out for when my pet returns home?
Many pets become stressed in boarding kennel environments. Common effects of stress are excessive drooling, fatigue, and diarrhea. We can provide you with more information to help decrease this problem.

Due to stress and fatigue from activity, your pet may be tired upon returning home. Additionally, many pets drink excessively when they first arrive home. These behaviors are common and normal, but should you become concerned, please feel free to contact us.

How do I make an appointment for grooming?
Here at McOsker Kennels we groom 7 days a week and include bathing, de-matting, and nail clipping. Call us at 603-672-0032 to schedule an appointment. We offer a full range of all-natural shampoos, dips, and coat supplies. Our prices are very reasonable.

On Wednesdays you can drop off your pet between 7am and 4pm without an appointment.

If you are boarding your pet, we suggest you schedule a grooming appointment for the day of pick up. If your pet is groomed the day of pick-up, you will not be charged for boarding that day!
